Space blankets were developed in 1964. They were originally used to protect astronauts against extreme temperatures in space. They work by reflecting back the infrared radiation that your body produces. Space blankets were used in the suits of the astronauts who walked on the moon. In modern society outdoor enthusiasts use space blankets to stay warm. Spectators of sporting events also use space blankets to stay warm when the temperatures dip.
